Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. – 2 Cor 9:07
Naming the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Northeastern USA Lieutenancy (EOHSJNE) in your estate plan will provide you with an enormous amount of satisfaction now, while insuring that you can be certain that your philanthropic goals will continue to be met as they will live on through your will.
A bequest may be the perfect gift, as it will support our Order’s mission to benefit the daily lives of our Christian brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, and insure the success of our Order’s mission to maintain a Christian presence in the Holy Land, without using any of your assets today.
With a bequest, you can balance philanthropic goals with your living expenses, future medical costs and the well-being of loved ones. Since you would be making a gift today for use in the future, you are not irrevocably giving any asset away. You won’t have to worry that your bequest will deny you an asset that that you might need down the road. A bequest provides flexibility to use the asset if you need it.
To make a bequest, you need a current will or revocable living trust. You can specify that the bequest be used for a specific purpose of your choosing or to ensure the success of projects such as:
- expansion of educational programs or the physical space in a Patriarchal school;
- support greatly needed programs and services in a home for the elderly;
- enhance parish programs for youth and families
If you prefer that your gift be used for a pressing issue at the time it is given, you can make the bequest in the form of an unrestricted gift that will be available for whatever purpose the Order determines the gift is most needed.
Your bequest could include either a specific amount or percentage of your estate for the gift. Through a specific bequest, you would designate a certain amount of cash, securities, or property to be directed to EOHSJNE. Most people, however, do not know what the exact size of their estate will be at their death. Thus, using a percentage amount to make a bequest gift to EOHSJNE can be a more appropriate and effective way to divide the estate. In this manner, you benefit the mission of EOHSJ and your loved ones in relative proportion.
When you notify EOHSJNE of your bequest, you will be joining with other forward-thinking members whose gifts provide much-needed future financial support to those Christian men, women, and children who need your help to remain in the land where Jesus lived, preached, died, and redeemed us.
- Determine whether or not you need to update your will or revocable living trust.
- Decide which purpose or purposes you wish to support with your gift, or whether your gift will be unrestricted
- Notify EOHSNE of your intention so that we can thank and recognize you for your gift, and keep you informed of ongoing works of the Order. If you wish to remain anonymous, we will respect your confidentiality.
